The India national cricket team has suffered a major blow as KL Rahul has been ruled out of the 2nd ODI against the England national cricket team at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Thursday, July 16. This has opened up an opportunity for Ishan Kishan to prove his usefulness in ODIs.
After losing the toss to England captain Harry Brook, Indian captain Shubman Gill has confirmed that Rahul is not a part of the playing eleven and Ishan has been included in his place in the squad for the Cardiff ODI. Before the game, Abhishek Nair revealed how Rohit Sharma reacts to failures.

Speaking at the toss, Shubman Gill has confirmed that KL Rahul is ill and that is why he could not take the field in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match ODI series against England at the Sophia Garden. The captain also shared that he has selected Ishan Kishan as the wicketkeeper-batsman in place of Rahul for the second ODI against England.
“KL is ill, so he missed out and Ishan Kishan is back,” Gill said as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Well, the Indian skipper said that returning to Cardiff feels special as he previously played a county season for Glamorgan, and now, he hopes to deliver another memorable performance on his return. KL Rahul failed to perform well with the bat at Edgbaston
Talking about KL Rahul, the right-handed batsman had a disappointing day with the bat in the opening match of the three-match ODI series against England. The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman could score only 1 run in 3 balls before England fast bowler Josh Tongue clean bowled him.
However, Rahul was impressive behind the stumps. He took a brilliant catch with one hand by diving down to dismiss Will Jacques off the ball of Shivam Dubey. The brilliant catch was one of the best moments of the match, with Rahul’s quick reaction and excellent wicketkeeping skills surprising everyone.
Shubman Gill and Gurnoor Brar returned fully fit for the second ODI.
Earlier, India had to face some injuries during the first ODI against England. Captain Shubman Gill had to leave the field after scoring 80 runs. There was another concern when fast bowler Gurnoor Brar had his run-up stopped just before the 48th over due to a fitness problem.
Akshar Patel completed the over in his place. However, the good news for India was that both Gill and Gurnoor recovered and returned fully fit for the second ODI against England in Cardiff.
