Dhoni celebrated his 45th birthday on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. The Ranchi-born wicketkeeper scored 17,266 runs and completed 829 dismissals in 538 international matches before announcing his retirement on August 15, 2020. Notably, he last played for Team India in the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 semi-finals.
Virender Sehwag shares unique birthday message for MS Dhoni
Virender Sehwag shared a unique birthday message for MS Dhoni on Instagram. He compared the former India captain to the famous Dhoni Falls in Palakkad, Kerala, saying that both look serene on the surface but are incredibly powerful underneath.
While sharing the photo with Dhoni, Sehwag wrote:
“In Palakkad, Kerala, inside a forest, there is a waterfall named Dhoni. No one can identify it directly. The path is a bit difficult. A guide is needed. You can see it only after walking for three hours.”
And when does it appear? Absolutely calm from above. Fire from within. The surface is smooth, but get closer and you realize how powerful it is. Kerala Forest Department has made a rule regarding this. The water looks calm. Isn’t it. I don’t know whether this rule was for the waterfall or number 7.

Harbhajan Singh wished MS Dhoni on his birthday by posting
Former India spinner and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh also wished his former captain on his birthday. Sharing a photo collage from his playing days, he wrote, “Happy Birthday Captain. Have a nice birthday.”

The trio enjoyed tremendous success together during their international careers. Sehwag and Harbhajan were key members of the Indian team when MS Dhoni led the country to its first title at the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa and the 2011 ODI World Cup win on home soil.

In ODIs, Dhoni scored 10,773 runs in 350 matches at an average of 50.57, which included 10 centuries and 73 half-centuries. He captained India in 200 ODIs and won 110 matches with a success rate of 55 percent. He was also India’s sixth highest run scorer in this format.
Dhoni also enjoyed a successful Test and T20I career. He scored 4,876 runs in 90 Test matches with six centuries and led India to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test rankings for the first time. In T20Is, he scored 1,617 runs in 98 matches and led India to 41 wins in 72 matches.
He also created a remarkable IPL legacy with Chennai Super Kings. Dhoni has scored 5,439 runs in 278 matches and has led the franchise to five IPL titles. He was retained as an uncapped player ahead of the 2026 season but missed the tournament due to injury.
