In Match 34 between defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). Fans turned out in large numbers to support RCB in what is their final home game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Sai Sudarshan came in a different style and the GT opener scored his first century of the season. This was his sixth century overall in this year’s IPL.
The left-handed opening batsman completed his century in just 57 balls; It was his third IPL century overall, and a statement from last year’s Orange Cap winner against one of the best sides of the tournament. He looked in great form right from the first ball and played a wonderful innings on a stable wicket.
Sai Sudarshan created history
Earlier in the match, the southpaw had become the fastest player to score 2000 runs in IPL history. He achieved this record in 47 innings and left behind the great Chris Gayle, who had done so in 48 innings. This was the sixth fastest in terms of balls taken to achieve the milestone.
Sai hit 11 fours and five sixes in his best innings. They had to settle for 100 off 58 balls, with Josh Hazlewood taking the big wicket. However, he put the GT in the driver’s seat with his brilliant knock-off. Earlier, Sai had scored a half-century and scored 235 runs at an average of 39.17.
Sai and Gill made a partnership of 100 runs
After being invited to bat first, GT’s openers Shubman Gill and Sai made a steady start. After three overs, they took charge as the latter were aggressive, and they were scoring at a good pace of over 10 runs per over.
Shubman Gill never got going and was out on the score of 32 runs in 24 balls. Both of them made a partnership of 128 runs and Gill was dismissed by Suyyash Sharma. Later, Jos Buttler was scoring at a good pace and his short inning of 25 runs in 16 balls took GT to a good level.
For RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled brilliantly with a spell of 31/1 in his four overs, and Suyash also took a wicket in the match. GT are in good position with the score at 179/3 in 18 overs. GT will hope to make a good score as the wicket is a bit sticky and a score of over 200 would be a good score.
