India has won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, becoming the first team to defend the trophy, the first team to win it at home, and the first country to win it thrice. Many former cricketers congratulated the Men in Blue after their victory over New Zealand in the final.

They have also been termed as the best T20 team of all time by some cricketers turned commentators and pundits. In a recent interview with Boria backstage, former India captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly also praised the team and head coach Gautam Gambhir, terming them the best white-ball team.

He is the winner of one T20 World Cup and one Champions Trophy – Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly believes that only Australia national cricket team and England national cricket team can compete with him in ODI and T20I formats. However, the former captain pointed out that the real test for Gambhir and his boys will be outside India, especially in seaming and bouncing conditions.

Sourav also pointed out India’s weakness in Test cricket as they have lost two consecutive home series against New Zealand and South Africa respectively. However, pointing out that if India plays on good wickets at home, Gambhir will make a good coach in the traditional format of the game as well.

Speaking to Boria, Sourav said, “If you remember my first interview before going to Australia, people were saying Gambhir this, Gambhir that. I said, give that fellow a chance. It was on your platform and it went viral. He is a T20 World Cup and a Champions Trophy winner.”

He will have to improve in test matches- Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly praised Gautam Gambhir for his success as coach in England, where a relatively inexperienced Indian team competed and tied the series in England 2–2. He also believes that the pitch should be taken out of context and the Men in Blue should play their best game.

“He is a tremendous T20 coach. He has to get better in Test matches. And most importantly, play on good wickets. If he plays on good wickets, he will be a good Test coach too. He plays a lot on turning pitches in India. Look what he did in England.”

I am looking forward to 2027 World Cup – Sourav Ganguly supports Gautam Gambhir

Sourav Ganguly further added, “So as a coach, you should take the wicket out of the system and just go and play. Because he is very good; I think as a white-ball coach with KKR and India, he has mastered this format in these conditions.”

“So I’m looking forward to the 2027 World Cup. He’s got to find a way to get better there because his batting in these conditions is breathtaking. But when it comes to seam and when it takes bounce, he’ll need to make his boys better. I’m sure he will do that.”

India will play an ODI series and a one-off Test against Afghanistan in June, before traveling to England for a white-ball series in July.
