BCCI announced prize money

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday, February 7, announced a prize money of Rs 7.5 crore for the Indian Under-19 team after defeating England in the 2026 Under-19 World Cup final in Harare. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia praised the young players and said that the board is proud of their achievements.

India, led by Ayush Mhatre, defeated England by 100 runs in a one-sided final at the Harare Sports Club. The Boys in Blue won a record sixth title in the U19 tournament. Batting first, India scored a mammoth score of 411/9 in the allotted 50 overs. In reply, the England team was out for 311 runs in 40.2 overs.

Speaking to PTI, Devjit Saikia said that India’s U19 team performed brilliantly in the final match. He said that this win is a special achievement and makes the entire country proud of the young champions.

Devjit Saikia announced that the board will reward the Indian U19 team with Rs 7.5 crore for their excellent performance. He said that this money will be distributed among the players, support staff and selectors.

“As a result of his outstanding performance, the BCCI is very proud to announce a reward of Rs 7.5 crore for our players and selectors as well as the support staff. We are really proud of our Young Turks led by Captain Mhatre and his team, including the brilliant performance of our young Suryavanshi.”

Saikia credited the coaching group for helping the team deliver strong performances in Zimbabwe and Namibia. He said the U19 win will motivate the senior men’s team, which will begin its title defense against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, February 7.

“The coaches under the leadership of Hrishikesh Kanitkar and the guidance of VVS Laxman helped the team perform excellently in Zimbabwe and Namibia. I wish them all the best.”

“With their success, our men’s team, which begins its title defense campaign against USA today at the Wankhede Stadium, will be encouraged by this performance from the young team and will give them a proper road map for success in the upcoming tournament.”

Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 175 runs in 80 balls with the help of 15 fours and 15 sixes. They add the 2026 title to their previous wins in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and 2022, while England remain with one title since 1998. The Indian team had lost the final of the last edition to Australia.
