The wait for Vaibhav Suryavanshi to make his India debut has become one of the biggest talking points in Indian cricket. The 15-year-old batsman was included in India’s squad for the Ireland and England T20I assignments but is yet to get his first cap after being left out of both the matches against Ireland and the first T20I against England.

The Rajasthan Royals opener enjoyed a record-breaking IPL 2026 campaign, scoring 776 runs and finishing as the leading run-scorer of the tournament. He also broke Chris Gayle’s long-standing record of most sixes in an IPL season with 72 sixes.

He had earlier scored 93, 96 and 97 during the IPL playoff stage, showing remarkable consistency against quality opposition. Yet India’s team management has preferred to support the core group that won the T20 World Cup earlier this year.

Captain Shreyas Iyer indicated after the opening match of the England series that the team wants continuity and confidence in the established performers.

You have to talk to him thoughtfully – Parthiv Patel on Vaibhav Suryavanshi

In Star Sports segment ‘Game Plan’, Parthiv Patel said that Suryavanshi will definitely get the senior India cap during the T20 series against England, but till that happens, the Gautam Gambhir-led coaching staff needs to be very careful with him.

Parthiv Patel also urged the Indian team management to teach the 15-year-old player to have a little more patience.

He said, “I think Vaibhav Suryavanshi will definitely get a chance at some point in this series. But at the moment, communication is something that is very important. You know, when you are part of a coaching staff, you have to make sure that you are giving the right signals to a batsman.

He said, “Even if you are not playing him, you have to tell him this fact. He is a 15-year-old kid. You have to talk to him carefully. You have to teach him to have some patience. Because when you are playing for India, when you are selected for India, there are many other players who have done really well.”

There is no space at this time – Parthiv Patel Parthiv Patel

The 41-year-old further revealed that India’s current top 3 in T20Is are Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan who are holding the spots and leaving no room for Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

Additionally, Parthiv Patel extended his support to India’s T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, who scored his maiden half-century as captain in the first T20I against England.

He said, “Talking about Sanju Samson. You know, he was the player of the series in the World Cup. You have Ishan Kishan, who is batting at No. 3 and is the No. 1 ICC ranked player. No. 2 is Abhishek Sharma. At the moment, there is no place, and you have to tell that to Vaibhav very well.”

He said, “I think the people who were raising the most questions must have felt the most relief. As a player, Shreyas Iyer doesn’t need to worry about anything. You know, he is a proven performer in this format at the international level.”
