Former Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer has shared his views on the Vaibhav Suryavanshi controversy and sent a strong message to the 15-year-old youngster ahead of his international debut. His views came after BCCI issued an official statement on the Vaibhav Suryavanshi drama.
The drama unfolded as India A lost a thrilling Super Over against Sri Lanka A. As the Sri Lankan players celebrated the victory, the atmosphere suddenly became heated on the field. Vaibhav had an argument with Sri Lankan player Vishen Halambaj.

It is being said that there was some altercation between the two players and within no time the situation worsened and a scuffle broke out. The incident attracted worldwide attention and players and match officials from both sides had to intervene.
Wasim Jaffer warns Vaibhav Suryavanshi after Sri Lanka A controversy
After the controversy, Wasim Jaffer criticized Vaibhav Suryavanshi for getting physical with the Sri Lankan player and suggested him to remain calm in such situations. He warned the teenager that rival players would keep trying to distract or provoke him during matches as he has become a big name at such a young age.
Jaffer has emphasized that Vaibhav should not ‘retaliate so quickly and should not get physical at all.’ However, the cricket pundit has pointed out that he is not saying that it was the left-handed batsman’s fault, but he still needs to understand that ‘being physical is not acceptable, no matter what.’

Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube channel, “I think Vaibhav needs to learn this. He is playing with a lot of publicity, and because he has a name now, people will try to provoke him and go against him. He needs to control his anger. This should not happen again, and you don’t want to be in the news for the wrong reason. He is a role model for many young players, so he needs to see all this. He will live and learn.”
‘You can’t react to this so quickly’: Jaffer tells Vaibhav
The former opening batsman also pointed out that many great players faced similar situations during their career, but he handled them calmly and he hopes he learns important lessons from the incident. Now Vaibhav Suryavanshi will have to show his talent in Belfast.
Jaffer further added, “I think he needs to control his anger a bit. You can’t react so quickly. You have a great role model with a journey like Sachin’s. You never see anything like this with him.”
‘Don’t cross the line’: Wasim Jaffer’s big advice to Vaibhav Suryavanshi
The former PBKS coach admitted that banter, some aggression and competitive spirit on the field are normal in cricket, but players should ensure that things do not cross limits.
He signed off by saying, “It’s all fine as long as you don’t cross the line and get personal. There has to be some degree of it, because the game is at such a high intensity. It tests your skills as well as your mental strength. But you have to make sure you don’t cross the line.”
Well, Vaibhav has performed well with the bat in the ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka so far. The young batsman has scored 117 runs in four matches, but is yet to play a match-winning innings for India A.
