Rohit Sharma run out in India vs Afghanistan 1scheduled tribe ODI is still the latest topic of discussion among cricket lovers. Ahead of the second match of the three-match series, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin again raised the topic.
During an online chat with Vimal Kumar on YouTube, R Ashwin explained the basics of running between the wickets. He points out that this was not the first time that there was a miscommunication between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.

Was Shubman Gill at fault behind Rohit Sharma’s runout?
Ashwin mentioned that it was Rohit Sharma’s call, who was on the receiving end. According to the fundamentals of cricket, as soon as the batsman at the other end shouts for a run, the batsman at the non-striker’s end is the one to run. If a runout occurs, it is considered to be the fault of the batsman at the striking end.
While some cricket fans blame Shubman Gill for Rohit Sharma’s runout, Ashwin thinks differently while sticking to the fundamentals of cricket. The former cricketer also says that at the junior level, coaches teach every aspirant about these fundamentals. Getting run out due to miscommunication at the top level of the game, and that too between two experienced campaigners, is not acceptable for Ravichandran Ashwin.
R Ashwin blames Shubman Gill for Rohit Sharma’s runout
“I saw that run-out live on the broadcast, and I don’t know when the audience will realize that when you play in front of the wicket, whenever a case like this happens, it is the striker’s call which the non-striker has to retain. It is really easy to argue. Gill refused the run, and this is not even the first run-out between him and Rohit Sharma,” R Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

If the striker says yes to the run, there is no view of saying no. All these fundamentals of running between the wickets are taught in childhood. These are all basic things. Everyone makes mistakes. I am not saying it is the fault of one or the other, but the truth here is that it was not Rohit’s fault,” he said.
R Ashwin’s big prediction before India vs Afghanistan 2nd ODI
Ahead of the second ODI, which will be held at the Ekana Cricket Ground in Lucknow on June 17, the former cricketer has predicted that it will be another easy win for India as the touring team does not have enough depth.
Ashwin says that there are a lot of quality cricketers in the Indian line-up, but for Afghanistan, they have a very limited number of top quality players, which creates a big difference between the two sides. With the win in Dharamshala, India is ahead 1-0 in the 3-match series.
If they double their lead in Lucknow, the third and final match of the competition will be a waste. In preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup, the Men in Blue will look to win all the matches against Afghanistan.
