Punjab Kings (PBKS) are currently taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 17th match of the ongoing IPL 2026 at the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh on Saturday, April 11.
The presence of Punjab Kings players on the field left many wondering why they wear black armbands. At the time of the toss, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer was already seen wearing black armbands along with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Ishan Kishan in New Chandigarh.

Punjab Kings shared a picture on their social media handles and said: “Standing in solidarity with the families affected by the tragic incident in Vrindavan. 🙏”

The tragic accident occurred on April 10 near Keshi Ghat on the banks of river Yamuna when a boat carrying around 25 to 30 people suddenly lost balance and capsized in the water. The incident turned into a fatal disaster after the boat collided with a floating pontoon drum left behind.
According to several media reports, most of the passengers were pilgrims and tourists from Punjab, especially Ludhiana and Muktsar. It is being told that at least 11 people including men and women have lost their lives in this incident.

Nevertheless, many others are still missing. Considering the sensitivity of the incident, a massive rescue operation was launched under the supervision of National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, local police and army units of Mathura.
Around 18 people are said to have been rescued in this operation, but the search operation is still going on as officials are trying to locate those who are still missing in the tragic incident that took place in Vrindavan.
Punjab Kings have set a big target to defeat SRH at home
Talking about the match, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and invited SRH to bat first at New Chandigarh. The touring team took full advantage of the conditions by scoring 219/6 runs in their quota of 20 overs against Punjab in the IPL 2026 match on Saturday.
PBKS, placed second on the IPL 2026 points table with 5 points after their last game against KKR was washed out due to rain, will be keen to regain those two points at home against SRH. They had a winning start to their campaign on home ground and now they are extremely hungry to win this match.
However, Punjab Kings bowlers had a tough day as SRH set a mammoth target of 220 runs thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s explosive innings of 74 runs off 25 balls. The SRH opener announced his return to form by hitting five fours and 8 sixes during his innings.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, are looking for their second win in the ongoing IPL 2026, having played two of their three matches so far. They are currently at sixth position in the table.
