India will take on England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup on Thursday, March 5, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Rinku had briefly walked out of the Indian team during the ICC event to attend his father’s funeral. He rejoined the team before the match against West Indies. The left-handed batsman was not a part of the playing eleven in this important match. He was also not included in the eleven for the Zimbabwe match.
Abhishek Sharma has struggled to make a big impact in the tournament so far. The left-handed opening batsman has scored only 80 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 131.14, with his best score of 55 in the match against Zimbabwe.
India adjust top-order tactics ahead of T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals
During the tournament, the team management decided to adjust the batting order to address a tactical concern. India initially had two left-handed batsmen opening the innings, with Tilak Verma also batting at number 3. This allowed opponents to counter the top order with off-spin bowling.
India restored the left-right combination in the top order. As a result, some batsmen moved from their regular batting positions. However, head coach Gautam Gambhir sees this flexibility as a strength rather than a problem.
Gambhir believes that having players capable of adapting to different roles gives the team more options during matches. This flexibility allows India to respond better to different situations throughout the game. The pitch is expected to be flat, due to which a lot of runs are likely to be scored in the upcoming match.

India and England set for high-stakes T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final clash
India reached the semi-finals by finishing second in Super 8 Group 1 with two wins. Meanwhile, England topped Group 2 after winning all three of their Super 8 matches.
Out of 29 T20 International matches, India has won 17, while England has won 12. In T20 World Cup competitions, they have played five matches, of which India won three and England won two.
Both teams have performed well in the tournament and both have lost only one match before the semi-finals. India’s defeat came against South Africa, while England’s only defeat was against the West Indies.
England will go into the match with a powerful team that is capable of changing the game quickly. Notably, the winner will move one step closer to becoming the first team to win three T20 World Cup titles.
