Aleem Dar resigns from Pakistan Men’s Selection Committee

Aleem Dar has resigned from the Pakistan men’s selection committee after allegedly being ignored during important selection discussions. According to Geo News, Dar had opposed the selection of Babar Azam, Shadab Khan and Usman Khan in the Pakistan team.

Babar scored just 91 runs in four innings at a strike rate of slightly more than one run-a-ball. The former captain was also dropped from the playing eleven for the match against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Shadab scored 183 runs in the competition and managed to take only five wickets.

Dar had instead favored wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan for the crucial No. 6 spot. He argued that if players with inconsistent performances are being given opportunities, Rizwan also deserves a clear role in the middle order.

Dar’s resignation ended his 17-month tenure as a selector. He was appointed on October 11, 2024, when the Pakistan Cricket Board formed a revised selection panel that also included Aaqib Javed, former Test captain Azhar Ali and analyst Hasan Cheema.

Pakistan is out after missing the semi-finals of the fourth consecutive ICC event

Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals of an ICC tournament for the fourth consecutive time. Despite making it to the Super 8 stage, the team could not maintain consistency and were eliminated from the competition.

Pakistan qualified for the Super 8 as the second best team in Group A. They played four matches, winning two and losing two, including a heavy defeat to India. However, they kept their hopes alive by scoring a crucial win over Namibia.

In the Super 8 stage, Pakistan’s first match against New Zealand was abandoned due to rain. The Men in Green then lost to England. Although the team managed to defeat Sri Lanka in their final match, the margin of victory was not enough to overtake New Zealand’s net run rate.
