Will Mohammed Shami get another chance to shine in Team India’s jersey? The answer remains unclear. Thanks to former Indian fast bowler RP Singh, who is now a member of the team selection committee, Shami fans have started dreaming again.
Recently in an interview, the Bengal fast bowler was asked about his relationship with RP Singh. In recent times, Shami and Singh were seen chatting, leading many to believe that the former Indian cricketer could open the doors of the national team again for the Bengal fast bowler.

In the interview, Mohammed Shami maintained a professional approach and said that some relationships are beyond profession. RP Singh is now a BCCI selector and Shami is looking for another chance, but the talks were mostly based on personal relationships and brotherhood.

Shami said in the interview, “Being a selector is a different thing. But we have personal relationships. There are personal relationships. So you don’t need to talk about selection.”
You have relations with everyone: Shami
The star pacer also said that when a player is on the field for the domestic season, everyone, including the selectors, keeps an eye on that player. But humans, people often communicate with each other not because of their respective professions or roles.
“If you are playing a domestic season, everyone is looking at you. There are teams. There is a selection committee there. So there is no doubt about that. But as a human being, you have relationships. You have relationships with everyone. It is not that you will associate with someone only as a profession. That thing is like one of our brothers”, the fast bowler further said, adding that the Bengal Express maintained an exceptional domestic season.
Mohammed Shami was one of the most exceptional bowlers in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season. For Bengal, the experienced fast bowler has taken 38 wickets this season, including the figure of 8 wickets. In the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Jammu and Kashmir at Kalyani on 17 February, Shami took a sensational 8 wickets. During the Ranji Trophy match against Services, the fast bowler returned with figures of 5/51. Overall, the 35-year-old took 38 wickets in 7 matches, including five-fors.
He was equally impressive in the Vijay Hazare Trophy also. He took 15 wickets in seven matches at an economy rate of 6.09.
Despite all the bowling efforts in recent times, the board has repeatedly ignored this fast bowler. There is more concern about the fitness of the bowler than his ability or bowling skills.
